Takalik Abaj is a pre-Columbian archaeological site in Guatemala. The words Takalik Abaj literally mean "standing stone" in the local Mayan language because it is home to one of the largest and most eclectic collections of monumental stone carvings in Mesoamerica. During the Late Preclassic Period (300 BC - AD 200), Takalik Abaj emerged as an important city for trade in the Pacific coastal region.
