Replicas & Editions: The National WWII Memorial - Bas Reliefs

The Second World War ended in 1945, after claiming tens of millions of lives making it the deadliest conflict in human history. An American Monument dedicated to the war was first proposed in Congress 42 years later in 1987, but was not signed into law for several years. In the late 1990s the artist Raymond Kaskey was in one team among 400 who would enter a submission to design and build the memorial. Although his group was rejected, Kaskey was later chosen by the winning entrant to create all of the sculptural elements that would adorn the seven acre World War II memorial in Washington DC.    Read More...
