3D Digital tools take sculpture to new dimensions

Heroic Fallen Soldier Monument   

Artist Richard Rist of the Large Art Company utilized Direct Dimension's high resolution 3D laser scanning and Rapid Prototyping to create an extremely accurate 2 times life size edition of his Fallen Soldier Memorial. 

First Mr. Rist provided the actual boots, helmet, and gun that would be the subjects of the sculpture for scanning.  Each item was meticulously scanned to capture all of the subtle details. The high resolution data was modeled into "watertight" digital models which were then doubled in scale, and fabricated using large scale Rapid Prototyping.

Mr. Rist used the 2 times scale prototypes as casting patterns for creation of his sculpture in bronze.
