Research & Analysis: Saint John the Baptist

Michelozzo di Bartolomeo, a student of Ghiberti, was one of the great masters of the early Renaissance in Florence and is known today for his work with sculpture and architecture. Many original works from the time period have been lost to the ages, but we can still admire their beauty from later castings that may have happened during or after the artist's life. One example is the lost statue of Saint John the Baptist, which Bartolomeo was commissioned to create for the church of the Santissima Annunziata in Florence.     Read More...
